My rantings…

Spam Commenting is on the Rise!

nospam

Y’know I checked my comments four days ago and cleared them out. Since then I’ve got 1,008 spam comments, and four real comments, that’s just out of hand.

I’m not going to approve your spam comments so stop trying. If you want me to post a link to your site, if you want to advertise your site then hit the Contact button up top and maybe we can work something out. So you might as well just stop trying as they’re never going to get posted live, they’ll just keep getting deleted. That little sign up there says it all, No Spam, Today, Tomorrow, Ever!

On my other sites I’ve put capthcas on the comments, I guess I have to do that here as well. It worked very well and cut comment spam by about 95%, which is pretty good.

SB 314 Bans Texting and Driving in Pennsylvania!

notextingNo-Texting-Driving-Sign-K-6772

I’m so happy right now. I hate you fucking assholes that text and drive. Yes I rarely swear on this blog, but sometimes I just have to.

What makes you think you’re so damn special that you can text and drive and put the lives others in danger?

What’s so important that it can’t wait until you get where you’re going?

You’re not that important, and your text message certainly isn’t that important either.

I can’t wait to see you people pulled over and fined for texting and driving!

It’s a great day to be a resident in PA!!!!!!

Subaru Forester Blinking Check Engine Light Rapidly

SO here’s something goofy…

A couple weeks ago I was cleaning my car, on the passenger side, beneath the dash I saw to wires hanging with green connectors on them. They were obviously made for each other, male and female. I thought hmm, this shouldn’t be unconnected right? So I connected them, that was a mistake.

The next day I turned my car on and the check engine light was blinking quickly and I thought wow, now what’s the problem. I just hit 1,000 miles on my car so I couldn’t figure out what could possibly be wrong.

I called the dealership to set up maintenance appointment and told them what I did and the problem. They set me up with the appt and I figured that was that.

Being the resource guy that I am I did some searching and found that they’re actually supposed to be unconnected.

I found the cause and what they’re for on the Subaru Legacy Forums actually. The plugs are for a few thing like re-flashing the computer.

http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/check-engine-light-flashes-rapidly-solved-7480.html?s=67f49acf3cfffb027548c6be56381ef7&

So I went and unplugged them and the light stopped flashing.

I called to tell them I fixed it and cancel my service appointment and I ended up speaking to another tech. I explained it to him and he said yes that’s common and he didn’t know why the other tech didn’t know this or why he made an appointment for me foe something so trivial..

Live and learn I guess…

At this point I jammed the wires back up into the console, never to be seen again.

netflix error n8106-106

What the hell is wrong with Netflix?

I’m really sick of this error popping up. There’s not a damn thing wrong with my internet connection, yet they try and tell me there is. That’s BS.

They’re raising the rates on us for a product that doesn’t even work part of the time.

I’ve posted about this fix before on here. So let’s recap.

I’ve done all my own fixes already, and they worked until today. Then it spits out the error right in the middle of watching something.

The quick fix I’ve got is just open your browser with ‘run as administrator’, right now that fixed the problem for me. Why though should I have to run as admin to watch Netflix?

Here’s links to the other two posts with the other fixes I‘ve used that worked for a while anyway.

The New Netflix Interface is Horrible

Yes it’s horrible..

They’ve hit the 5000 comment limit on the Netflix blog and I’d say 99% are complaints about it. Yet they don’t care, they won’t change it back.

I hate it. I hate it. I hate it.

I’d leave if it wasn’t for the fact that they’re the best thing around I’m sure.

I now spend much more time trying to find a movie that I used to. I think they changed it so people would spend more time looking for movies instead of actually watching them.

Seriously I have to stop looking after a while as my eyes start to hurt. They like glaze over and get fuzzy from watching them scroll by. It’s horrible, the new interface is just horrible. If I search for movies for a long time, letting it scroll by, when I stop it’s like it’s still going, all blurry like.

Netflix please listen to your customers and change it back, or at least give us the option to use the old interface.

Why are you doing this to your customers? I would love to know who actually approved this horrid ‘improvement’. I’d like to see him lose his job. Who actually did they talk to about it? Supposedly they had a test group, were they all high when they viewed it? That’s the only thing I could think of as to how and why the new interface was liked in the test groups. They had to be high on something to think it was an improvement.

Gack.. I would love to leave, and just cancel.

I’m looking into Amazon but it doesn’t really work with the Xbox360, sure it does but it had to be streamed from your PC. I see no PS3 or Wii support, and I’ll have to search and see if one of my blu-ray players is supported or not. Amazon VOD isn’t like Netflix at all really, you have to rent them individually or join Amazon prime. I guess it’s not a bad deal for streaming at $79 per year when compared to Netflix, but I think Netflix has a bigger selection.

Hulu, well I can’t stand Hulu, at least the free version.., the stupid commercials are just so damn loud it’s impossible to watch anything at night without sitting there with my finger on the mute button. Hulu is only TV shows though, which are mostly stupid reality TV which I can’t stand. Looking right now I see only 58 movies on Hulu Plus and only 20 are in HD. I don’t think that’s an option at all.

Please Netflix, have some pity on my eyeballs and change it back.. or at least let me use the old interface.

Do Not Use Sergeant’s Evolve Flea and Tick Drops on Your Dogs!

DSCN1623

I applied Sergeants evolve flea and tick drops last night to my dogs. I have two Pitbulls who are 5 months old. I bought it because the store didn’t have our normal Frontline and I thought the company name and products were reputable. Within an hour of applying the product both of my dogs were acting weird and whining. This got worse as the night progressed, they didn’t sleep and neither did I. They whined, cried, scratched and twitched all night long and into the morning. When I let them out of their pens they ran around the house rolling around on the floor whining and crying, rubbing up against anything they could find, knocking over chairs and just being very odd. I did some research and found that there are thousands of complaints about this product, I wish I had knew this before the purchase as I would never have bought it. I bathed the dogs immediately first thing in the morning after reading about the deaths of other dogs. They only have it on for about 7 hours total, and they seem a little better. The scratching has subsided and they’re actually asleep now. As they’re sleeping they’re twitching though. I’m hoping I got to them early enough that no severe damage has occurred to them. I will never buy another Sergeant’s product for my pets again, and I will gladly tell others to stay away. I also bought the Sergeant’s gold for my cats, but I’m afraid to use it on them. I already opened the box so I can’t return it to the store. So basically I’m out the cost of both boxes now, what a waste. Why won’t they take these products off of the shelves if they know of these problems?!

So far no damage to my pets. It’s early though, and I hope they’re going to be ok. I think I got it all washed off early enough that it won’t cause any damage to them, but only time will tell really. My smaller dog does seem to have an irritation on her back, it feels matted and hard. The only economic damage is that I’m out the cost of two boxes of their product since I’m not going to use it on my cats now after reading about and then seeing the reactions in my dogs.

I filed a complaint already at Consumer Affairs, not that it’s actually going to do much good I’m sure. I’m amazed that they are selling this product, there are thousands of complaints about this and their other products out there. Dogs and cats are dying and getting sick because of them, but they don’t seem to care. The ones who survive are only doing so after costly vet bills…

So stay away from this product please…

EDIT – UPDATE:  Well it’s the same day, just late afternoon. The smallest dog, Samantha, has developed two of what look like chemical burns on her back. They’re seeping and rather nasty.. fun-fun, we’ll see what happens here.

EDIT: 6-23-11 – UPDATE

So things have gotten worse with Samantha.

Here’s a couple pictures of what this stuff did to my dog, warning they are a bit graphic:
