The Review:
The backing mat ships rolled up and covered in a layer of plastic you need to remove before using and of course you’ll need to wash the mat before using it as well.
The mat is made of a non-stick silicone and it feels almost like rubber. It has a semi-gloss surface and it allows for easy cleanup. The mat is fairly large at slightly less than 24” x 16” so it offers ample surface room to roll out of pie crust of whatever other dough you might be working with. The center of the mat features circles with measurements on them so when you’re making a pie crust you can easily see how big to roll it out.
On the sides are handy conversion charts and around the edges are measurements in inches and centimeters. I guess these charts are a nice addition but I don’t think I’d ever use them.
For testing I made a pie, an apple one to be exact and it turned out great.
The measurements for the circles and around the edges are very slightly off, but they’re off towards the plus side so it’s not that big of a deal to me. If they were off being shorter then it might be an issue. By off I mean just by not even an 1/8 of an inch, which isn’t that big of a deal. If you’re making a pie crust you’ll make it slightly larger anyway and trim the excess dough.
All in all it’s decent product that I’m happy to have in my kitchen.
It cleans up easily after use and it helps keep your work are clean as well.
You can use the mat for more than baking too, most anything really.
